French Kiss
Here is a sketch I did way back in 1999 - when I had more time on my hands. I came across an old calendar with photographs by Robert Doisneau at a old book dealer in New York. I bought the calendar, and the first thing I did when I reached home was sketch this.
The original photo is here. More photos by Doisneau are here.

Hi Rahul
This is actually quite nice. I have seen the original many times. I doubt if one goes to Paris one will see lovers embrace so openly (maybe, I don't know) but this image is one that many people have of Paris. This is why I think it is considered a romantic city.
Excellent sketch. An alternate career perhaps, if this one doesn't work out? :-))
Thanks Michael and Sunil.
Michael: We were in Paris this spring. It is a great city, I would move there in a heart beat, but we found the city overrated as a romantic city. It could be this image that did it, as you say.
Sunil: I had considered having this as my career... but societal constraints drove me to where I am now. :)

Migoodnessgracious! Great work!
super sketch periyaananya ;)
Srikanth and Ganesh: Thanks
just wait till the moral police get at you. and you recently went to Madras too, didn't you?!
very nice sketch... now will sit back and dream of my paris holiday :)
Rahul
good sketch. What i like about the original picture is that the couple and the city seems to be totally unaware about the other's existance. It seems that the only person who pries on the couple is the photographer. Cool picture and cool rendering.
I have vacationed in paris a couple of times. Amazing city. I didnt see many people kissing around, but the city itself has a romantic touch. Anyday, i would fly to paris without thinking too much.
Thanks Charu and Arvind.
Charu: It is to run away from the moral police that I came to Norway - not too many morals floating around here :)
Arvind: Yes, Paris does have a romantic touch - something many european cities with character have. As Michael says in his comment, probably Paris has become a "romantic destination" for many mainly due to this image.
Rahul the great, I have a Doisneau book ("Rue Jacques Prevert) and it is magnificent. May I recommend Joel STernfeld, another terrific photographer.
Dilip, I had heard of Sternfeld before, but never searched for his pictures/books. I am going to do so right away.

Nice sketch this! I checked out the original too and the sketch comes close enough to potraying those original emotions. The world whizzing by, but the man and the woman blissfully unaware, each lost in the other.
